Mont Blanc Hotel
You'll be immediately seduced by the arty, hushed decor of this legendary boutique hotel. For the Mont-Blanc elegantly cultivates the art of living in all its forms. Here, beautiful things are seen, tasted and experienced in a terribly chic and cosy setting, right on the Place du Clocher. The reasons why it joined the Art Travel label of excellence were obvious...
"I like establishments that tell a story through their walls. And that's the case with Mont-Blanc. It's a mythical hotel with a soul, right in the center of the village," explains Grégory Ferrante, founder of Art Travel magazine and of the eponymous hotel label of excellence, which now includes the Mont-Blanc among its 4 and 5-star hotels. What's in it for you? The guarantee of an exceptional address, with that extra touch of soul that makes it a place apart, where art, design, gastronomy and, of course, made-to-measure service come together.
All you have to do is let your eyes wander and listen carefully to be convinced. The walls, like the vintage fifties and sixties furniture, tell a host of stories from the living rooms draped in powdery, velvety white, both chic and cosy: sofas by Guillerme et Chambron, armchairs by Gio Ponti, period lighting with sixties lines, including lamps by ceramist Georges Pelletier, ceramics by Vallauris and also by Jean Marais, who used to come here as a regular, and other sublime vintage pieces from Atelier 55, a gallery in Megève.
The 38 rooms and suites, with their refined, couture decor, also whisper stories. "It's a cult hotel that's also traditional, intimate and warm, where you feel good," continues Grégory Ferrante. It's a jewel of a boutique hotel where you'll want to stay, not only for the arty, chic and hushed decor, but also for the gourmet offerings that are sure to please.
Mythical hotel, the Mont-Blanc is the ideal address for lovers of fine things to see and taste. From the lounges, draped in white, to the new table, authentic and refined, and of course the 38 rooms and suites, with their extravagant and refined decor.
A taste of the peaks
For a tour of Mont Blanc, there's nothing like the hotel's new restaurant, Le Relais. An alpine brasserie where you can savour traditional mountain cuisine, halfway between the Italian, Swiss, Austrian and Savoyard peaks, just like those indispensable relais of yesteryear.
What's for dinner? An authentic cuisine of happiness and sharing, straight out of the recipe books of Savoyard grandmothers, with dishes that are both simple and comforting, reminiscent of mountain pastures and trattorias, as tasty and well-crafted as those that used to perfume the kitchens of bourgeois homes.
At random? A 4-spice duck foie gras terrine with Alpine saffron Christmas jam to share, or boletus, chestnut and beef bacon soup with caraway to warm up. When it comes to main courses, the choice quickly becomes a Cornelian one: Acquerello risotto with Termignon blue cheese, Valdôtaine-style veal escalope with pumpkin sauce or farçons (on Saturdays), a potato cake with bacon, dried fruit and kirsch... The dessert buffet is just as likely to leave a taste of happiness in the mouth. You'll love the blueberry tart, the Savoy cake, the little pots of alpine milk cream or the snow eggs with pralines. And, of course, the cheeses take you on a tour of Mont Blanc.
As for sweet tooths, it's curled up in a soft shepherd's chair, facing the fireplace, topped by a magnificent ceramic sun, that they melt over the home-made pastries and hot chocolate. Lemon tarts, chocolate éclairs, pistachio religieuses, and of course the Mont-Blanc, the signature pastry of our our tea room with its divine chestnut cream.
For the less well-behaved, the bar Les Enfants Terriblesbar, as it was called by Cocteau, is perfect for enjoying vintage bubbles with its champagne bar, while watching the horse-drawn carriages pass between the snowflakes.
